About this Workshop

Build participants’ understanding of alcohol and other drug use and addiction in order to support respectful, non-stigmatising interactions with people who use drugs.

This workshop covers:

  • Why people use drugs
  • The cycle of addiction
  • Risk and protective factors for substance use and addiction
  • Support for people who use substances

This training is best suited (but not limited to) people working in the following types of roles:

Allied Health Professionals, Individuals Working in the Alcohol and Other Drug Sector, Case Managers and Correctional Staff, Higher Education Students, Educators and Teachers, Parents and Guardians, Policing and Law Enforcement, and Sporting or Recreational Organisations.

How does it work?

Requesting an Understanding Addiction workshop is easy:

  1. Fill out the form on the right to request training.
  2. Within 2 business days, you'll receive an email with next steps and your request number.
  3. When your request is at the top of the queue, our booking coordinator will be in contact to talk to you in detail about your needs.
  4. At the time of confirming dates for your workshop or education session you will be issued an invoice for the booking fee: once payment is received, your booking will be confirmed.

What to expect:

Participants will leave the workshop with the ability to:

  • Describe addiction as a health issue,
  • Identify a range of reasons why people may begin using alcohol and other drugs,
  • Identify key factors that can influence a person's experience of substance use and addiction.

DEN’s 'Understanding Addiction' workshops are provided to your organisation at no cost thanks to funding from the Tasmanian Government.

The sessions do however attract a minimal booking fee of $55 (GST inclusive) to cover the administrative costs of arranging the session.

At the time of confirming dates for your workshop or education session you will be issued an invoice: once payment is received, your booking will be confirmed.
